EXHIBIT G Sl~ III IIIIII~IIIIIIIII
WATER INFORMATION
• GENERAL EFFECTS ON WATER RESOURCES: The operation is expected to have only minor
adverse effects on surface or ground water resources. After reclamation, these effects are not
expected to increase flows, but during mining some increase in volume may occur.
TRIBUTARY WATER: No permanent streams flow through the area to be affected. There are no
reservoirs or stock water ponds on site. To the east of Phase 4E is the former Little Johnson
Reservoir site, but this is no longer used as a reservoir and has even been considered for residential
development.
The only permanent water flow route through the site is the Fountain Mutual Irrigation
Ditch. This ditch has been on this site since long before there was a mining operation. Under the
1985 amendment this ditch was relocated on the west side of Academy Boulevard and reconnected on
the east side of Academy Boulevard. The ditch was routed through a 72" steel pipe about 250 feet
long which was pushed through the sand under Academy Boulevard. This replaced a former pipe
over Academy Boulevard that was both an eyesore and a traffic hazard. Portions of the relocated
ditch route are now concrete lined, but the remainder of the ditch is unlined and follows the route
originally established when the ditch was constructed.
This ditch carries water from Fountain Creek to the Johnson Reservoir located a few miles
southeast of this site. Transit Mia Concrete owns a considerable amount of the water rights in this
ditch. The water from the reservoir is mainly used for irrigation. Approximately 20 years from now
• the ditch will be relocated again to the north side of those portions of the operation located east of
Academy Boulevard. Although no design yet eaiets for this relocation, it is assumed that the ditch
will be wnstructed much like the concrete lined ditch that was relocated several years ago. It is
possible, although not probable, that by that time the ditch will be abandoned. It is more likely it
will remain in use for a long time into the future. Prior to relocating the ditch, a design will be
prepared and submitted for approval by the ditch company.
The concrete lined portion of the ditch which is parallel to Academy Boulevard in the
northwest comer of the east phases of this operation is expected to remain beyond the term of this
permit. Although this ditch section will not be a part of the actual ditch after reclamation, a gate
installed at the upper end will regulate the flow into this section of the ditch. From the end of this
ditch section a pipe will extend dawn the pit slopes to an enclosed pool. The pool will be connected to
the aquifer underlying most of this property. This pool will provide for some recharge of the aquifer
by using ditch water. At this point it is not known how much recharge will occur or whether the
method will even work as well as hoped, but it should at least help maintain the aquifer. A copy of
the agreement with the various parties involved in this recharge plan ie included at the end of
Exhibit D, Mining Plan.
• Water Page G-1
