The water from the outlets of culvert number 1 and 2 will
flow by overland sheet flow to the inlet of Culvert No.
3. The inlet of culvert number 3 will be placed at the
low point in this area. I do not see any operational
problems with this system.
2. The inlet of the extended 108" Elk Creek culvert will be
protected by a rock headwall. Page B-127 has been
revised to commit to the construction of this headwall.
Although it is not clear on the drawings, culverts 3, 4
6 5 will be constructed with the use of concrete drop
inlets. Therefore the issue of the size of the ditches
leading to culverts 3, 4 & 5 is not an issue. Culverts
1 6 2 will be installed with a typical "projecting from
fill" inlet. The following table shows the required
headwater depth for culvert 1 & 2 to pass the design
flow. In both cases the headwater depth is less than or
equal to the design ditch depth. Therefore the ditch
depths leading to culverts 1 6 2 are adequate. The HW/D
ratio is obtained from figure 4-18 from the Handbook of
Steel Drainage & Construction Highway Products.
