RE: Mine drainage treatment
In reply to a letter dated March 25, 1981, information is enclosed
to answer your questions concerning Dowell M-178 Flocculant. Information
as outlined in the letter is as follows:
1. Design and Layout of Treatment System.
A. Mean, Maximum and average flow to be treated.
Mean - 27,000 GPD, Maximum - 40,000 GPD
Average - 20,000 GPD.
B. Method of treatment - metered injection pump, pumping
into the water line when flowing.
C. Type and dimension of mixing chamber - (sump size)
70,000 Gal.
D. Theoretical detention time - pump run every day,
therefore, an average of 1 day detention underground.
E. Theoretical detention in pond - once above the sediment
level a 24 hour detention time is the maximum allowed.
F. Method of sediment removal and disposal - a dredge or
slurry pump will be used to clean the pond and the material
will be disposed of in the underground development waste
disposal area.
G. Design and dosage of aeration facility - not applicable.
H. Design of filteration system and filter media - not applicable.
