Weber <br />Colorado Springs, CO 80907 <br />RE: Southfield Mine (Permit No. C-81-014) <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 3 (RN-3) <br />Dear Wildlife Manager: <br />Ul vl$rON Of <br />MINERALS <br />-&- <br />GEOLOGY <br />4EC leM ATION <br />Bill Owens <br />Governor <br />Greg E. watcher <br />E.ecuhve Director <br />mlchael B Long <br />D~reaor <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, <br />Section 1 l8, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 2, 1999, an application to renew <br />an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Southfield Mine was considered complete for the <br />purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation <br />Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. proposes to continue underground coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land <br />located approximately 7 miles south of Florence. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Mine Area: <br />Portions of Sections 19, 30, and 31; Township 205, Range 69N of the 6th P.M.; Sections 23, 24,25,26, and <br />36; Township 205, Range 70 W of the 6th P.M. <br />Loadout: <br />Portions of Sections 17 and 18; Township 195, Range 69W of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Rockvale. <br />Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. has submitted an application for the renewal of the Southfield Mine permit, No. <br />C-81-014. <br />Because the above referenced permit renewal application would incorporate additional lands into the permit <br />area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting <br />your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating [o the adequacy of fish and <br />wildlife resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and <br />wildlife considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are requested. IF <br />wildlife habitat is the proposed pastmining land use, we request your evaluation of proposed woody plan[ <br />stocking levels, planting arrangements, and methods for mitigation of potential adverse impacts. <br />STATE OF COLORADO <br />Applicable sections of the permit renewal are enclosed.
