Pursuant to Title 34, Article 35, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised
Statutes, the Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice that on
January 5, 1993, a technical revision application for a permit to conduct coal
mining operations by Basin Resources, Inc., 14300 Highway 12, Weston,
Colorado 81091, was deemed complete for the purposes of filing. All reviews
and comment periods as provided in the Act and Regulations promulgated
thereunder initiate from this day of filing.
The applicant proposes to revise underground coal mining operations at the New
Elk Mine. The revision addresses a change in plant waste refuse disposal.
The operator wants to store underground the finer fractions of coal and coal
refuse from the processing plant. The process would involve a slurry pipeline
leading into the abandoned underground workings.
The New Elk permit area is located approximately 25 miles west of Trinidad,
Colorado, in the following sections:
Sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 34, 35
and 36 of Township 33 South, Range 68 West; Sections 1
and 2 of Township 34 South, Range 68 West; Sections 30
and 31 of Township 33 South, Range 67 West; and Section
of Township 34 South, Range 67 West.
A11 sections are partially or fully projected by Basin Resources
due to the unsurveyed nature of the Maxwell Land Grant.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle
maps of Vigil, Tercio and Stonewall.
