Water and Sewer Department
1100 10"' Street, 3`~ Floor • Greeley, CO 80631 • (970) 350-9812
RECEIVED
~AY 1 4 20D2
May 13, 2002 Division of Minerals end Geology
r/~ifr. Nick Hoban
West Greeley Soil Conservation District
4302 W. 9`" St. Rd.
Greeley, CO 8063498 ~ /
RE: Warranty R/elease Request; Western Mobile Northern, Inc.; Greeley/West Pit; M-1977-081
Dear Mr. Hoban,
Gregg Squire of the Division of Minerals and Geology forwarded to me a copy of the attached letter
you sent to Mr. Carl Mount dated March 19`", 2002. The City of Greeley took ownership in
November, 2001 of the property that Western Mobile Northem is requesting be released from
reclamation responsibilities (see attached map). The City of Greeley acquired the property in question
with the intent of creating a storage reservoir by constructing a slurry wall around the two existing
lakes on the property. The City plans on starting the construction of the slurry wall on this site
immediately after the pending release of the reclamation responsibility of Western Mobile and
issuance of a new mining permit for the City of Greeley. By the issuance of a new mining permit,
Greeley will be responsible for the ultimate reclamation responsibility for the site including the
control of noxious weeds.
During the construction of the slurry wall a working platform will be created to give adequate room
for construction equipment. The creation of the working platform will remove a considerable number
of the trees surrounding the exiting lakes including the species of concern listed in your letter. The
City of Greeley commits to the removal of the remaining Russian Olive and Tamarisk (Salt Cedar}
trees on the site after the construction of the wall is complete and will continue to control those
species during the life of the permit. With this commitment, the City of Greeley requests that West
Greeley Soil Conservation District remove their opposition to Western Mobile's request for release of
future reclamation responsibilities on the parcel that is now owned by the City of Greeley.
If you have any further questions on this issue, please do not hesitate to call (970) 350-9291.
C rdially,
/Todd Williams
Water Resource Engineer -Greeley Water Depart/m~ent
cc: Carl Moun[, Division of Minerais and Geology V
Gregg Squire, Division of Minerals and Geology
Pam Acre, Applegate Group
Kevin Peart, Western Mobile Northern, Inc.
$ E R V I N G O U R C O M M U N I T Y I T S A T R A D I T I O N
~epromrse to preserve andimproue IFie 9ual y ofJfe for ~-'reeley tlarouyFi time y, courteous anr/cost effec(iue service.
