CYCC is clarifying the parameter list to show that calcium,
sodium and magnesium are analyzed as dissolved. CYCC and the U.S.
Geological Survey (USGS) have traditionally analyzed for major ions in the
dissolved phase. Analyses for major ions normally include the cations
calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. The important factors for
analyzing in the dissolved phase are the consistency (and comparability)
with long term data bases (USGS, CYCC) and the maintenance of analytical
integrity and balance of water samples collected and preserved in the
field. A final point is that dissolved calcium, sodium and magnesium are
essential components in the calculation of SAR. This revision is necessary
to eliminate the confusion surrounding calcium, sodium and magnesium.
Attached is a revised Table 101, Hydrologic Monitoring Parameter List.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call me.
Sincerely,
P~Q~~.-~ \~Qrcn
Richard Hughes
Environmental Specialist
RMH:dg
Attachments
~~~~
