Material samples obtained during the subsurface investigation were
tested in the laboratory to provide data on the classification and engineering chazacteris[ics of the road
base gravels and [he subgrade soils. The results of the field and laboratory investigations aze presented
herein.
This report has been prepared [o summarize the data obtained and [o present our conclusions and
recommendations, based on [he existing conditions encountered and the proposed traffic loadings. A
discussion of geotechnical engineering considerations related to improvement of the existing roadways
in [he selected areas are also included.
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
We understand that this project will consist of the improvement of the gravel sections for the existing
roadways and the consvuction of a new gavel section far the proposed access roads. The existing
roadways which will be improved include selected portions of Hatd Road B, Pond A Access Road,
Waste Coal Pile Access Road, Magazine Access Road, PM Bay Access Road SW Bleeder Shah
Access Road and the Fish Creek Borehole Access Road. The roadways which have yet to be
constructed consist of the West Escape Shaft Access Road, Batch Loadout Access Road and the
Eastern Dewatering Borehole Access Road. All of the subject roadways will be gravel surfaced. It is
our understanding that the haul roads will be subjected to a mixture of automobile and off road haul
trucks and loaders. The access roads will generally be limited to pickup traffic and occasional delivery
trucks or construction vehicles.
(970)879.7888 • Fax(970)879.7891
29585 U.S. 40 West, Box 775226 • Steamboat Springs, CO 80477
