Long <br /> Division Director <br />Re: Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine (Permit No. C-84-065) <br />Technical Revision Application No. 15 <br />Clarify Reclamation Success Standards & Eliminate Woody Stem Density Standards <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph <br />4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that oti March 3, 1998, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Coal Ridge <br />No. I Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by NCiG Financial, [nc.. All <br />review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Stipulation #27 of the permit required that the vegetation success standards for the Coal Ridge No. I Mine be clarified. The <br />revision also intends to eliminate the woody stem density standards completely and change the species diversity standard. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located appro%imately 7 miles west of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The <br />permit area is further described as follows: <br />T6S, R9l W; Portions of Sections I and 12 <br />T6S, R90W; Portions of Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, IS and 16 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Storm King Mountain and New Castle <br />Because the above referenced technical revision application would incorporate additional lands into the permit area or might <br />otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of <br />the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and wildlife resources information, the fish and <br />wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as i[ relates to fish and wildlife considerations, including potential impacts to threatened <br />or endangered species, are requested. If wildlife habitat is [he proposed postmining land use, we request your evaluation of <br />proposed woody plan[ stocking levels, planting arrangements, and methods For mitigation of potential adverse impacts. <br />A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Garfield County Courthouse, 109 8th St <br />Ste 200, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601, and at the Division office.
