16. Description of the affects of Mining:
In areas of development mining (limited extraction), no surface affects are predicted, nor have been
evidenced. In areas of longwall mining (maximum extraction), the affects of subsidence have been
evidenced by minor subsidence tension cracks at the boundary of mining with areas of virgin coal. These
cracks have been of limited extent.
Subsidence monitoring was not required in this area as the areas of longwall mining were not classified as
renewable resource areas. Subsidence north of the highway was monitored. Typically, subsidence of up
to 6-7 feet was observed over areas were mining heights averaged 7-8 fee[. The majority of surface
deFlection occurred immediately following mining, with additional movement of up to 6-12 inches
cumulative in the 6-24 months following mining. ARer 36 months, most monitoring stations evidenced
movements of less than 0.1 fee[ annually.
17. Copies of Required Notification to Interested Parties: Enclosed
18.
