Mathews
Page 5
November 13, 2000
Please provide the latest survey information from which each of the revised SEDCAD runs for
Ponds 2-3,4, and SA are based on. This information will be used to verify current sediment
storage volume, current sediment level, and pond volumes.
Sa. As stated on Page IV-39 of the permit document, BME is currently required to maintain a
10-yeaz runoff storage volume in each of the Refuse Disposal Area ponds after a major storm
event. In order to maintain a 10-year runoff storage volume after a major storm event, the water
level in Pond RP-2/3 will be dewatered ] .6 feet, the water level in Pond RP-4 will be dewatered
2.0 feet, and the water in Pond RP-5 will be dewatered 1.65 feet below the primary spillway.
Please clarify how the 10-year runoff storage volume will be maintained if the sediment level is
raised in each of the Refuse Disposal Area ponds to within .5 feet of the primary spillway.
6. A C value of 0.9 is acceptable for the condition of the refuse piles. BME indicates that
crop management practices will be utilized for sediment determination. Pleasae clarify this and
provide a detailed description of crop management practices to be used at the Refuse Disposal
Areas.
