•
Mark Kostelic
13350 Pawnee Trail Ct.
Elbert, CO 80106
Dan Hernandez
Mined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Hernandez,
~~ ~ ~ . Ill lllllllllllllllll
X01 P
~~~~~~
~+1AY 31989
FAIR~FD LAND
~crL APA.A?!ON DIVISION
I urge you to deny the Castle Concrete application to increase mining at
their Snyder Quarry near Colorado Springs. I feel the quary is too large
now and steps should be taken to phase-out operations there. The
phase-out, of course, would call for replanting trees.
Having just moved here, I noticed the quary right away. I can see it from
just about anywhere in the area. I know it is easy for residents to get
use to seeing it, and after awhile - ignore it. But to some one visiting,
the quary really catches their attention. It's kind of like the small
towns up in the mountains in Colorado, who try to attract tourist dollars
not realizing that fifty percent of the houses and farms in their area
have junk cars laying around, etc. which they don't even notice because
they live there and don't "see" the blight anymore. Then these people
wonder why no one wants to stop in their town and spend some money, or
consider moving and working there. The same thing applies to the bigger
town of Colorado Springs.
Anyway, I know your not in
but this quary is in a bad
out quary operations there
material has been removed,
something useful besides an
around.
Sincerely,
/~~
Mark Kostelic
the business of attracting folks to Colorado,
location visually. Please take steps to phase
and look for other places which, after the
could be turned into a park, lake, landfill, or
eye-sore right in the middle of the best view
