Ken Coa! Company
Ken (Harr) Mine -Grazing Plan
units be placed in the management area for the shortest period of time.
This approach will encourage utilization of the entire management area,
allow available forage to be grazed before it dries out, and limit the
management period with respect to access control and watering
considerations. Based on this recommendation, Kerr plans to graze
approximately 86 animal units for a period of one month beginning as
soon as the necessary approvals can be obtained and fence constructed.
FUTURE MANAGEMENT
Given the potential benefits of grazing for reclaimed lands, Kerr plans to
continue the proposed grazing program in future years. In order to insure
continued effective management, Kerr will, prior to implementation of
annual grazing, estimate forage production for management areas and
submit this estimate along with proposed stocking rates to the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Division (Division). Any substantive changes in
the grazing plan, including addition or modification of management areas,
will be submitted to the Division for approval prior to implementation.
Generally, grazing will be scheduled for spring (May/June) to obtain
maximum utilization of available forage and encourage natural invasion of
woody plants and other indigenous species.
4
