Ms. Kay James - 2 -
MLRD
Adequacy MRA
Mdy 18, 1988
Letter Response Comment/Question
3 2 The utilization of field data remains unclear. Data is
reported for thirty-three sites, yet forty-eight sites
are identified on the map. Did you report data
collected in the sedimentation ponds and Mann Draw?
4 Re dente's article is no longer available in this office
and Cook's article did not arrive with this submittal.
Please accommodate us on our request.
5 3 Please clarify the width of these benches to ensure
appropriate modelling. Page 40 of the MRA report
indicates the bench would be the width of a CAT. A
grader was mentioned during our May 18, 1988, telephone
conversation. The MRA response suggests a bench will
be 6 feet wide.
Other Questions:
What density of contour furrow placement are you
proposing to utilize? (See statement in the second
paragraph of Page 40 of the MRA report.)
Please commit to a postanining survey of terrace
placement, longitudinal profiles of terraces and three
cross-sections per terrace to ensure that construction
was performed as designed within thirty days of the
completion of construction.
6 Noted.
7 Please commit to an annual submittal date of a rill and
gulley survey and vegetative cover analysis. This date
should accommodate Division review of this information
prior to the fall seeding period.
8 4 Please utilize an R value of 44.25 to accommodate
hydrologic predictions of snowmelt runoff. The
Division's experience indicates that snowmelt does
contribute to overland flow.
9 5 Noted.
Additional Question: What particle size values do you
propose to utilize in SEDIMOT? The model requires
thirteen (13) particle size gradations. Given the
importance of soil erodibility to soil loss, we must
utilize values obtained from actual laboratory results.
