Natural Resource rn,stee
Technical Revision No. 35, B Seam Mine Plan, Adequacy Review
I am requesting your assistance in the adequacy review of Technical Revision No. 35 (TR-35) for the
Bowie No. 2 Mine, submitted by Bowie Resources Limited (BRL). In TR-35, BRL is proposing to
modify the currently approved B seam mine plan. I would like you to review the subsidence related
aspects of the modified plan.
The stated intention of BRL in submitting this revision was to comply with Stipulation No. 18. As you
know, BRL constructed a rock catchment berm above their Bowie No. 2 Mine facilities in order to
protect the facilities from a potential subsidence-induced rockfall from the mining of the D coal seam.
At that time, the Division required BRL to conduct an additional study of the potential rockfall
situation before they mined two additional longwall panels, designated WB-1 and WB-2, in the coal
seam below the D seam, namely, the B coal seam. The requirement for this additional study was stated
in Stipulation No. 18 and TR-35 is the result of that additional analysis. Jon White of the Colorado
Geological Survey (CGS) is working on the potential subsidence-induced rockfall issue of TR-35.
However, BRL also modified the B seam mine plan to include major changes. Panel orientation in the
north has been changed 90 degrees and extended further to the north. Also, new development mains
have been added on the west side of the mine site, presumably for future access to the coal that is west
of Terror Creek. Please review this new B seam mine plan for any issues concerning subsidence.
Attached is one complete copy of the submittal. I have also included the currently approved Map 14 (D
Seam Mine Plan), Map 14-B (B Seam Mine Plan), Map 27 (Subsidence) and Map 27-B (Subsidence
Monitoring). I think it would be a good idea for you and me to discuss this revision before you begin.
I will be calling TR-35 complete sometime next week. I have not heazd from BRL yet as to their
schedule but I will let you know when I find out. If there is any additional information that you need,
please let me know.
