EXHIBIT D (Cont'd.)

' ldining Plan
Mining started in 1957 and has progressed from the southwest
t part of the property al ong the south side toward the east. Siuch
of the first mining was done prior to the passage of state
reclamation statutes. The pre-statute area of mining is shown on
\tap Exhibits C and D-1. 6lining will be conducted in six stages so
'
as to minimi ze surface disturbances at any one time. Stage 1 will
' be mined in two areas (see Map Exhibit D-1). Area lA is located
on the south end of the property and leas been partially mined
' under the existing limited impact permit; mining will continue to
completion under th e new permit. Area 1B has been opened as an
1
exploration active for clay testing and color determination.
' In order for a satisfactory commercial clay to be derived at
this location, clays from Area lA and from Area 1B must be mixed
' at the plant. After material from the top 20 feet is removed,
Area 1B will b e included in Stage 2A. Clay from Stage 2A will
'
be mixed with clay from Stage 2B to ob tain a satisfactory product.
' Clays extracted from Stages 3, 5 and 6 may require some mixing,
but generally the required materials are within the perimeter of
' the one stage. Stage 4A-4B is the last stage where mixing frum
a non-continguous area is required. Mining will proceed from
' Stage 1 in numeric order through Stage 6. This staging pattern
is shown on Map Exhibit D-1.
This pit will be operated year round on a demand basis.
' When clay is required for certain specification brick, it will
be removed from this mine.
9
