located on the inside of the Upper Bench Road and Bench to a pour-off (DP2) into Area
7.
Area 4 and Area 14:
Area 4 is a moderately vegetated upper slope area immediately above Area 14, the
southern portion of the Upper Bench Road. A highwall sepazates Area 4 from Area 14.
The combined runoff from Areas 4 and 14 will be conveyed by drainage channel DS4
located on the inside of the Upper Bench Road to the Reseazch Mine area, where it
discharges to the natural drainage by way of discharge structure DP3 located immediately
south of the former Research Mine portal. Depending on depth to bedrock, DS4 may
include all or portions of the Upper Bench Road.
Area 5:
Area 5 consists of the natural subbasin located above the Research Mine, and main mine
access road. This area is mostly naturally vegetated but also contains Logan Wash Road
(the primary access route for ranchers and gas industry operations) and a reclaimed area
that was part of past mine operations. The reclaimed area contains a small stock
detention pond located near the elevation of 8,280 feet (above mean sea level). Runoff
from this azea will be conveyed by the natural drainage channel that exists. That portion
of the drainage that crosses the main mine access road and Research Mine Bench will be
recontoured to contain the design flow from this subbasin to the downstream portion of
the natural drainage below the Reseazch Mine dump. The conveyance channel on the
road and bench is designated DSS and the discharge point on the face of the dump is
designated DP3.
Area 6 and Area 15:
Area 6 is the steep, forested, west-facing slope opposite the Research Mine portal area.
Area 15 is the small portion of mine access road at the toe of Area 6. The combined
runoff from Areas 6 and 15 will be conveyed by drainage channel (toe ditch) DS6 located
on the inside boundary of the mine access road. The ditch will convey water northward
to the recontoured natural drainage DS4 associated with Area 5, and ultimately discharge
at DP3.
Area 7 and Area 10:
Area 7 is the steep sparsely vegetated terrain that is situated between the Upper Bench
Road and the Lower Bench Road. Area 7 also receives runoff from discharge points DP1
and DP2. Area 10 is the Lower Bench Road. Runoff from Area 7 and 10 will be
managed by an open channel on the inside of the Lower Bench Road and a drainage
channel constructed on the east boundary (at the toe of the Upper Dump) of the Lower
Bench. These drainage structures are collectively designated DS7. DS7 will convey
water north to the end of the northern limit of the Lower Bench where water will be
dischazged at discharge point DP4 to the natural drainage ("Dry Gulch"), located
approximately 100 feet to the north.
Western Water & Land Inc.
