Re: Full Phase III (final) bond release inspection at La Plata No. t Mine near Hesperus,
Colorado (Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology Permit C-87-072)
The Division of Minerals and Geology has scheduled a bond release inspection at the La Plata No. ]
Mine. The Division received a bond release application from the mine's bond provider, Rocky Mountain
Bank and Trust, on February 12, 2004 and found the application complete on April 30, 2004. The
approximate 193-acre bond release area is privately-owned surface and the coal mined was also privately
owned. The land surface disturbed by mining operations is approximately 7 acres.
Time and date of the inspection: 9:00 a.m., Friday. June 4, 2004.
Location of the inspection: La Plata No. 1 Mine, 6.5 miles southwest of Hesperus, Colorado, NW ya
and NE %a Section 28, T35N-Rl l W, LaPlata County, Colorado.
From the town of Hesperus: Go south on Highway 140 approximately 3 miles to LaPlata County
Rd. 120, on Rd. 120 go west approximately 2 miles to the mine site on the north side of the road.
Purpose of the inspection: To verify that the bond release area meets the regulatory requirements for
Phase [II bond release (final bond release). The amount of the bond release request is $10,276.
