Minor Revision Application
Somerset Domestic Water Supply Droo Structure
Oxbow Carbon & Minerals, Inc. (Oxbow) is requesting this minor revision to extend three (3)
drop structures in the North Fork of the Gunnison River to improve the recharge of the
infiltration field that supplies culinary water to the Sanborn Creek Mine and the Town of
Somerset. (See Attached Map C8-1120).
Oxbow proposes to use a weir type construction for each of the drop structures. These drop
structures will be constructed out of large rocks and riprap materials in accordance with the terms
and conditions of the approved Army Corps of Engineers permit. The rock will be obtained from
Mountain Coal Company's (MCC) approved riprap source on the south bank of the river. Oxbow
and MCC have a letter of understanding regarding each companies use of roads and the river
crossing to complete their respective construction projects. Oxbow proposes to extend the three
drop structures while MCC proposes to relocate a power line. Access will be via a "Light Use"
road constructed through Oxbow's permit area from State Highway I33 to the north bank of the
river. A river crossing evill be constructed to the south bank. A "Light Use" road from the south
bank of the river to the rock supply will also be constructed. The construction and reclamation
responsibilities for each company are defined in the above referenced letter. (See attached letter)
The approved Army Corps of Engineers permit is being included with the minor revision
application.
