P.O. DRAWER 926 SALIDA, COLORADO 81201
u.s. SOIL INC.
November 18, 1999
Butala Construction, Inc.
(and)
Whom Ever Else it Might Concern:
REF: Reclamation Program. Butala Pit. Permit No. M-87-127
303/5393535
It is my opinion [hat a reclamation program for the above permit area consisting of the following
would be a satisfactory program:
Provide an amount ofmoisture-retaining soil approximately I/4 (one fourth) of the total that
consists of 3f4 (three fourths) of the fine soil-element existing at the permit area. To this total
add a satisfactory amount of high altitude seeding mixture that includes Thurbers' Fescue Grass
of the type used at the Monarch Ski Resort to stabilize slopes that have been cleared for skiing.
The reclamation area should be scarified, or otherwise agitated, prior to commencing [he
reclamation project. The soil elements should be screened in a manner to assure a proper
mixture. The entire reclamation program is to be expedited appropriately for a succesful
operation. This program should result in a satisfactory fescue grass base to initiate the long term
reclamation. The moisture retaining soil is available at many locations in Chaffee County,
Colorado. One specific location is at the Butala Gravel Pit at Salida, Colorado. The proper seed
mixture is available at any of the major seed suppliers located in Colorado.
Due to the altitude of the permit area, a time element of several years will be required to effect
full growth r clamation.
erb Owen, PFID
Chief Plant Ecologist
U S Soil, Salida, Colorado
