Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division received your adequacy response regazding Technical Revision (TR-04) for the Roberts Quarry,
Permit No. M-1977-301. Pete Lien & Sons intends to reclaim the stockpile azea D where it currently exists,
and use a portion of the pile (approximately 200,000 to 300,000) to reclaim additional disturbance in areas of
Section 27.
In order to leave the pile in its current configuration, please inform the Division of the following;
1. Please demonstrate that the material in stockpile D is not necessary to reclaim existing or future
disturbances at the Roberts Quarry to achieve the approved reclamation plan and postmining land use.
Pete Lien & Sons will need to demonstrate that enough material is available from elsewhere on site to
reclaim the existing or future pits to the required slopes and configuration.
2. Please inform the Division as to the final reclaimed slopes of the remaining stockpile D, and the length
of the slopes. If Pete Lien & Sons proposes slopes 2h:ly or greater, then the operator must
demonstrate that slopes will be stable, graded in such a manner to control erosion and siltation and able
to sustain a vegetated cover.
3. Please inform the Division as to the depth of topsoil to be replaced on stockpile D, the total volume of
topsoil required to cover the pile, where the topsoil will be obtained, and specify if topsoil will need to
be salvaged to accomplish the final grading. Please also inform the Division as to where the topsoil
from the footprint of stockpile D was placed with the making of the pile.
4. Please specify the grass, forb, shrub or tree species that will be planted on stockpile D and the
applicable quantities. Specify the quantity of each grass and forb species as pounds of pure live seed
per acre and the application method.
Please be advised that Division's decision due date is set for September 15, 2004. If you feel more time is
needed to complete your reply, the Division can grant an extension to the decision date. This will be done
upon receipt of a written waiver of your right to a decision by September 15, 2004 and request for additional
time. This must be received no later than the deadline date.
