PHILLIPS MINING, GEOTECHNICAL & GROUTING, INC.
with water:cement ratios down to 0.7:1 by weight, at a rate of at least 15 gpm at 100 psi.
The mixing and holding tanks must be sized to adequately supply the pump at its
maximum pumping rate.
7. SUMMARY
The completed plug must be a competent unit that is capable of withstanding the applied
hydrostatic head with the minimum of leakage. To achieve this goal, particular care must
be taken in the construction, especially in the following areas;
• there must be no uncontrolled water entering the plug construction area, especially
during the concrete placement;
• a very thorough final cleanup of the rock surface of the plug must be performed to
remove all the loose material, prior to the placement of the concrete;
• there must be adequate preparation for the concrete pours, including the provision
of a suitable concrete mix design and the necessary back up equipment and/or
spare parts, to ensure that the work can be completed without a major delay;
• the grout pipes must be carefully and accurately located;
• the gouting of the holes must be appropriately sequenced and the choice of either
Terracem or Ultracem cement grouts, or equivalent, must be compatible with the
conditions encountered in each grout stage in each hole.
Page 10
