•luhn If. Iles non
3696 Silver Plume Lane
Boulder, CO. 80303 RFCEIVD
tel (303) 543 9236
fax (303) 554 9032
31 March 1997 APR 021997
Division or minerals&Geology
Department of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver 80203
Sirs,
Subject: University of Colorado Flatirons Property
I have learned from a recent letter to the Daily Camera that Western-
Mobile has submitted an application for a reclamation plan ammendment
that would reduce the acrage of lakes on this property from 38.1 to 4.2
acres and the number of lakes from five to two.
This ammendment is in contradiction to the DMG end use of the property,
is at variance with the past management of the land which respected the
environment (in spite of its use as a gravel pit) and is perhaps a harbinger
of rumored University intentions to cover this land with playing fields and
parking lots.
A portion of the flatirons property including the five lakes can be seen
from my neighborhood. I wish to go on record of objecting to this
amendment on the grounds that it reduces natural habitat and may well be
the first step in preparing the land for uses that will be objectionable to
neighbors.
Yours sin ely
John H. Beynon
