- ------ ---- -- - - - _
APR 22 '97 14:20 CITY OF BOULDER P.6/13
review alternatives for mitigating flood impacts for surrounding neighborhoods. The results of
this master planning effort likely will entail opportunities for coordinating reclamation activities at
the Deepe Farm Pit mining site with flood mitigation measures.. Completion of the master
planning phase of the Taggart study is anticipated for the summer or fall of 1997. The University
of Colorado, Flatiron Companies, and Western Mobile all have expressed thew commitment to
participating in this study and master planning effort. In this spirit of cooperation, the Ity of
Boulder asks the DMG to refrain from approval of Western Mobile's proposed on plan
amendment for the Deepe Farm Pit until the Taggart study is complete and Western Mobile has
had an opportunity incorporate the results of the master planning effort into its final rec6nation
play.
Thank you very much for considering the City of Boulder objections to Western Mobile's
proposed amendment to the existing reclamation plan for the Deepe Farm Pit mining site. Again,
the City of Boulder believes these objections constitute sufficient ground for the DMG to deny
this amendment request. Please contact John Tayer in the Boulder City Manager's Office if you
have any questions regarding Boulder's position on this matter. You can reach John by telephone
at(303)441-3005.
Sincerely,
Leslie L.
