Carl B. Mount -
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology MAR lgq f
Department of Natural Resources
State of Colorado J.
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
March 13, 1997
Dear Mr. Mount:
I am writing to register my objection to the approval of Amendment No. 002 submitted by
the Western Mobile company to change its reclamation plan for the Flatiron[University of
Colorado Property in south Boulder. The requested authorization to reduce the number
of lakes from five, with a total of 38.1 acres of water to two lakes with a total of 4.2
acres of water is absolutely contrary to the approved end use of the property. The gravel
mining permit and the original approved reclamation plan require that wildlife habitat be
protected. The destruction of these lakes and their surrounding wet land environments is
a clear violation of the intent of the original commitments made by the property owner to
the community.
I request that a pubfic hearing before the Board be held according to the provisions of
Rule 1.7.4(2). Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
I
I
Sincerely,
Gary.
