Mr. Steven Renner
April 9, 1990
Page 2
Just north of the process facilities are ponds and the
topsoil storage area. The larger of the ponds is for waste
water evaporation (same waste streams as original permit).
The smaller pond will be utilized during upset ~ ~~tl~i~~ns to
temporarily store process water. Both ponds will be double
lined and have leak detection capabilities. A topsoil area
for storage of material from the process and pond areas is
planned just west of the ponds. The waste water and process
ponds are much larger than original permit as a result of
"no discharge design" in order to comply with state
discharge limitations. The acreage required for ponds and
topsoil is 25 acres. Site clearingJleveling is scheduled
for May, 1990.
Water will be supplied from a water well, approximately 1800
feet South of the process area in the proposed soluii~~n
mining area. See enclosed drawing (dated 3-20-90) for
location.
Details of solution mining, production techniques, mud pits
(for drilling), and processing methodology are similar Lo
original permit. Due to additional horizontal drilling
information and experience, the cavity dimensio~~:: zre
planned to be 1000 feet long by 52 feet wide by 26 feet
high. The additional length will reduce surface disturbance
and drilling cosi:.
Affected acreage is as follows:
Disturbance tune
Acreage
Plant situ or process facilities 10
Waste water evaporation pond, process
water pond, and topsoil storage 25
Proposed water supply well 1
Existing production well 26-88-1 1
Proposed injection/production wells (3)
for solution mining, near 26-88-1 3
Monitoring wells immediately south of
plant site NaTec 26-EX-2, 26-89-1,
26-89-2, 26-89-3 and proposed
monitoring wells south of production
well field.
Total 41
