Proposed PUBLIC NOTICE
Energy Fuels Coal Inc. (EFCI), P.O. Box 459, 1190 County Road 92,
Florence, Colorado 81226, has filed an application for revision of
approved mining and reclamation plans for the Southfield Mine. The
approved Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) permit, Permit Number
C-81-014, addresses existing underground coal mining and related
surface operations and reclamation activities. The proposed revision,
Technical Revision No. 27 (TR-27), provides a stability analysis report
of the existing Refuse Pile and recommendations for inspection of
construction practices.
Areas to be affected by the proposed plan and revision are located in
Fremont County. The Southfield Mine area is located approximately seven
miles south of Florence, Colorado, on County Road 92. The mine area is
bounded on the south and west by the base of the Wet Mountains, and
Newlin Creek bisects the mine area frccn southwest to northeast. The
Southfield loadout area is located approximately one mile west of
Florence, Colorado, on County Road 11A and the Santa Fe Railroad spur
line. The loadout area is bounded on the north by Chandler Creek, and
on the south by Oak Creek.
The Southfield Mine area is located on the following sections:
Sections 19, 30, and 31; Township 205, Range 69W
Sections 23, 24, 25, 26 and 36; Township 205, Range 70W
The Southfield Rail Loadout Area is located on the following sections:
Sections 17 and 18; Township 195, Range 69W
These sections are covered by the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute
Rockvale quadrangle map (Mine Area), and the Canon City quadrangle map
(LOadout Area).
