Long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, <br />Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 11, 2002, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the Seneca II-W Mine was considered complete for the purposes of Fling. All review and comment <br />periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />This permit revision is submitted for the approval of additional disturbance for mining, reclamation and related <br />operations for the II-W South Expansion Area. The approval of this Permit Revision will allow SCC [o extend the <br />life of the Seneca II-W mine. <br />The surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 9 miles south of Hayden. The permit area is <br />further described as follows: <br />TSN, R88W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 10, 1 I, 14, 16, 21, 22 and 23 <br />T6N, R88W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24 <br />T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Hayden Gulch, Hayden, <br />Dunckley, and Mount Hams. <br />Because the above referenced pemilt revision application would incorporate additional lands into the permit area <br />or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting your <br />agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and wildlife <br />resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and wildlife <br />considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are requested. Your evaluation of <br />any woody plant stocking levels, planting arrangements, and methods for mitigation of potential adverse impacts is <br />also requested. <br />A copy of the entire revision application is also available for public inspection at Hayden Public Library, 225 E. <br />Iefferson Avenue Hayden, Colorado 81639, and at the Division office.
