The
letter was sent on behalf of Western Mobile Northern, Inc.(WMI), requesting that they be
released from future reclamation responsibilities on a portion of the site.
After inspecting the site, we found an infestation of Russian Olive, and Tamarisk (Salt Cedar)
trees. Both of these trees are on Colorado's Noxious Weed List. They aze of special concern to us
at this site because of the proximity of the Cache La Poudre River and several other gravel pits in
the area. I know of a surrounding gravel pit that has been controlling these species, but by leaving
the larger, more mature trees at the site in question we will have a never ending seed source of
these noxious weeds. Also if these weeds were to escape into the Poudre River riparian area they
could easily spread up and down the river, destroying native habitat.
Because of the concerns listed above, we recommend that WMI not be released from future
reclamation responsibilities until the noxious weed problems have been addressed. If our office
can be of any help addressing this problem please do not hesitate to call (970) 356-8097 ext. 3.
Sincerely,
.~\ \~
Nick Hoban
District Manager
NO~~ = ~~~
~.~ = ~b(i5~~
