L~
Page 2
Phase III-A ...
The major difference between operations of this phase and the above
mentioned phases is the use of a dredge for mining. Toosoil will be.
stripped prior to mining and will be used to continue dike re-enforce-
ment and to backfill the north and east edges of Phase III. The dredge
will leave a thin "ribbon" of undisturbed material between the existing
water in Abandoned Gravel Pits "C" and "B" and the newly created water
surface in Phase III-A. This thin strip of land is left as requested
by the landowner. Operations in this Phase are expected to last 2 years.
Phase IV
The topsoil and overburden will be stripped and used for dike re-
enforcement. The area will be mined with the dragline and operations
in this Phase should last 2.years.
Phase IV-A
Topsoil will be stripped and used to continue dike re-enforcement and
to fackfill along the east and south edges of Phase IV. Plant Site II
will not be mined. Material will be excavated using the dredge.
Actually, only about half of the atea included in Phase IV-A will be
excavated. This occurs because the landowner wishes the existing bodies
of water left unaffected by mining; therefore, roughly the northern half
of Phase IV-A w121 not be mined. Also, a causeway connecting the office
site and northern half of the site will be left. A 15 foot "ribbon"•of
land will be left between abandoned gravel pits "A" and "B". The strip
of land between those pits will also be~left as will the remaining land
surface north of the two abandoned pits. This operation should last
3 years.
Phase V
Topsail and overburden will be stripped and used in dike re-enforcement
and backfilling along the road on the south edge of Phase IV-A, around
the office area and Plant Site II. Material may also be utilized to
fill additional areas in Phase V to above water. Mining in this area
will be accomplished with a dragline and operation in Phase V should
be completed within a 2 year period.
Phase V-A
Topsoil and overburden will be stripped and used for dike re-enforcment
and backfilling along the north and east edges of Phase V and possibly
along the road on the sourthern edge of Phase V-A. Operations should
take 3 years.
Phase VI
Topsoil and overburden from Phase VI will mostly go into backfilling
a larger portion of Phase V and VI, The area will be mined with a
dragline and will take place over a 2 year period.
