I
Southwest District Ventilation Borehole. Powerline and Access Road
The Southwest District Ventilation Borehole, Powerline and Access
Road will require a minor amount of work in order to reclaim the
sites. The work includes: building & duct work removal, fan
removal, demolition of concrete pads, removal of concrete, sealing
top of casing, powerline and pole removal, road removal, topsoil
replacement, and seeding.
It is anticipated the ventilation shaft, and access road will have
a useful life of approximately three years, or until the last panel
in the SW District has been mined out. After this occurs the
building, duct work, and fan will be removed from the site.
Likewise, the powerline and poles will be removed. Until final
reclamation commences, the borehole will be temporarily sealed as
described within the response to Rule 2.05.4(2)(g). At the time of
final reclamation, the concrete pads will be broken up and the
concrete removed from the site. The material will either be hauled
to the refuse site for disposal or hauled to a land fill.
Final reclamation of the thirty-six inch diameter casing will
involve placing a plug at the bottom of the cased hole, cementing
the cased hole from the plug to within three feet of the surface,
backfilling the top three feet of the hole with available material,
topsoiling, and seeding the site. Alternatively, the cased hole
may be selectively cemented by placing a cement plug 20 feet above
and below the water bearing units (i.e. Wadge Overburden,
Twentymile Sandstone). The remainder of the cased hole would be
filled with a grout. As above, the top three feet of the casing
would be cut off and the hold backfilled with soil. The access
road, unless it is to remain after mining, will be graded to blend
in with the surrounding topography and the culvert will be removed.
The ventilation borehole pad and access road will be topsoiled and
seeded with the appropriate seed mixture.
TR 94-17 2.05-55(b)(1) Revised 5/26/94
