SOUTHFIELD MINE
TR-ZO RESPONSES
APRIL 1995
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
3a. Will 11,800 ry of topsoil and 54,700 ry of subsoil fx excavated from the 7.3 acre area?
Resnonse: DMG is correct, the 11,800 ry of [opsoil and 54,800 ry of subsoil will come from the
remaining 7.3 acre azea.
36. It is the Division's undemanding that the 7.3 acre area will comprise 2. S ones of refuse pile and
4.8 acres of borrow area. Please confirm.
Re~onse: DMG is correct, the 7.3 acre area comprises 2.5 acres which will be covered by [he
proposed refuse pile and 4.8 areas of borrow area.
3c There are 7,800 ry of topsoil in the topsoil pile ar the Newlin Creek Mine. 71se tables show char
only 7,000 ry will be used Why will the entire stockpile not be used?
R~onse: EFCI will use the entire stockpile. We chose to use 7,000 ry in our calculations [o be
conservative.
3d. EFCI has stated that the modified refuse pile configuration will cover approximately 33 acres
when compleu; 19 acres has been reclaimed and /4 apes of the refrtse pile surface will require
reclamation. Based on the map faxed to the Division on Novembrr 9, 1994, please verify that
the 14 acres includes the two acres to be reclaimed, the active bench, and the expansion area,
Response: DMG is correct, the 14 acres includes [he two areas to be reclaimed, the active bench,
and the expansion azea.
5. As previously requesud, please verify that 11. S ones is the currently disturbed area and 1. S ones
will br the expanded footprint. (also see M 3d).
Re~onse: At [he time EFCI submitted TR-20, 11.5 acres was disturbed and 2.5 acres would be the
expanded area. Since the submittal of TR-20, an additional 3.7 acres have been reclaimed and the
2.5 acre expansion has been completed.
9a. Please clarify the location of the west refuse ditch prior to, during and following construction
of the borrow area As EFC! is aware, sediment control for the refuse pile and borrow ditch
must be in place at all times, and until sediment control removal is approved
Once the Swale is in place, it will become a natural channel which will drain water coming ojf
the pile and from the Swale itself. Sediment control ditches associated with refuse piles are
intended to be temporary, while diversion ditches are intended to b° permanent. /s it EFCI's
intention to make the ditch in the Swale the permanent diversion ditch and eliminate the
diversion ditch located to the west of the Swale? Do ground conditions facilitate this alternative?
Revised designs jot the west refuse ditch at the roe of the refuse pile and at the bosom of the
Swale, and the south refuse ditch have been reviewed 71se ditch designs were verified in
SEDCAD and appear to br designed adequately.
c~aco~rx.soxsr~
an9iss cusp,. t7
