Exhibit D - Mining Plan
Location and Setting

This is an application for a Regular 112 permit conversion (M-92-102)
to mine an area located in Montrose County approximately 2.7 miles south-
southwest of Montrose. The site lies on a high, dry cut terrace created by
the historic occupation of the Uncortq~ahgre River and its tributaries. The
area lies approximately two miles west and 130 feet above the current
location of the river. The site is currently used for rangeland and
mining. The upper surface of the affected area has minimal relief, ranging
frcan nearly level to a few percent.
Access
~' Access to the
pit will be from Ranger Road (a county road) to an
existing private road located along the south and east side of the affected
area. The Exhibit C map illustrates the permit area and access. The road
was originally constructed for other purposes and no upgrading, other than
occasional maintenance, will be required for the mining operation.
Although the road lies within the permit boundary, it is exempt from
inclusion in the affected area per Rule 1.1 (4).
Soil Salvage
Prior to disturbance in a particular area, topsoil will be stripped
and stockpiled for use in reclamation. The depth of the surface soil
suitable for use in reclamation, and corresponding depth to be stripped,
~, depends on location on site but is generally about six inches. Information
regarding the site's soil resources is provided in Exhibit I - Soils
V Information. All stockpiling will occur near the perimeter of the affected
area. The Exhibit C map illustrates the anticipated stockpile locations.
-4-
