<br />Exhibit K - Climate Information <br />Climatic data is available for the city of Montrose, located about 2.7 <br />miles to the south-southwest of the affected area. Much of the data was <br />derived from various National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration <br />publications which compile data fran a recording station (elev. 5,830 ft.). <br />Other climatic data was obtained from Climates of the States. Colorado, by <br />Joseph Berry, U.S. Department of Cam~erce, Climatography of the United <br />States, No. 60-5. <br />The winters are relatively cold and dry and have extreme variations in <br />temperature. The summers are relatively hot and dry. The mean annual <br />temperature for Montrose is about 49.6~F. The mean minimian January <br />te~erature is about 14~F., and the mean maximian temperature for this month <br />is about 39~F. In July, the mean minimian temperature is about 56~F and the <br />mean maximian te~erature is about 91°F. The average temperature for the <br />months of June, July and August is about 69~F. <br />The mean annual precipitation is about 9.1 inches. Approximately 65 <br />to 70 percent of the annual precipitation falls between April 1st and <br />October 31st. Typically one inch or more occurs during the months of <br />April, August and September. Snow occurs principally during the months of <br />November through March with an average of about 50 days per year with snow <br />cover. <br />The frost-free period (daily minimum te~erature higher than 32~F <br />averages about 152 days in length; the growing season for native plants is <br />March through September with the optimum growth period in the early spring <br />and surtmer months. <br />-24- <br />
