Permanent Impoundment Checklist
Impoundment: Pond F
Mine: Marr Mine Date review completed: April 10, 2007 ~I~
Permit No.: C-80-006 CDMG reviewer: Tom Kaldenbach
Document where demonstration is located: TR-22 Submittal
Intended use of impoundment: Livestock and wildlife water supply

Demonstrations required by Section 4.05.9 (13) Demonstra
-tiou
adequate ?
es / No
Comment
Pond F collects runoff from surrounding
reclaimed and undisturbed lands. This runoff
can be expected to be alkaline, as native
topsoil has been replaced on most of the
mined areas. Pond F is on Segment 4 of the
North Platte River system. The pond
discharges to Bush Draw, a tributary of the
Canadian River which flows to the North
Platte River. Flows in Bush Draw and the
Canadian River are ephemeral, flowing only
during periods of significant snowmelt or rain.
The discharge monitoring data from Pond F
(station 321) has been reported in AHRs for
more than 10 years and indicates water in the
(a) The quality of the impounded water shall be pond has been suitable for the intended use of
suitable on a permanent basis for its intended livestock and wildlife watering. Discharges
use, and discharge of water from the have been alkaline, having low TDS, TSS,
impoundment shall meet applicable State and Yes and iron content. Livestock and wildlife have
Federal water quality standards and shall not used the pond without incident for several
degrade the quality of receiving water below years. Pond F discharges are subject to the
applicable stream standards; quality limitations of EPA's regulation 40
CFR, Part 34 for total iron, pH, and TSS.
These limitations were included in Pond F's
CDPS discharge permit, which has been
terminated by CWQCD. Dischazges from
Pond F have not exceeded CDPS discharge
limitations for several years. This long history
of compliance indicates discharges from the
pond will not cause exceedances of those
stream standards for which discharges from
Pond F have a reasonable potential of
contributing to an exceedance (according to
the CDPS discharge permit limitations those
standards are: pH, TSS, total recoverable
iron, settleable solids, and oil and rease).
(b) The level of water shall be sufficiently stable The amount of water impounded each spring
and the configuration of the pond shall be Yes usually is sufficient for livestock watering for
adequate to support the intended use; 1 or 2 months.
