It has become necessary that the ventilation shaft be made available as soon as possible in order
to increase mina ventilation at the underground development sections. WFU is requesting that this
revision to the permit be treated as a minor revision.
Map 139 of the permit has been revised to show the location and pertinent information about the
ventilation shaft. The shaft will vertically connect with the cross-cut between twe right entries of the East
Portal. It wilt be 12 feet in diameter and approximately 110 feet deep. A 16 feet square and two feet
deep concrete pad will be poured around the proposed shaft. A vertical shaft cover, 10 feet high, will
be bolted to the concrete pad. This structure will direct the return air vertically away from the ground
level and prevent surface water runoff from entering into the mine workings.
A 65' x 38' drill pad will be constructed by removing about 100 cubic yards of topsoil, and by cutting
approximately 1500 cubic yards of subsoil into the existing slope and placing this as fill for the pad area,
and a drainage channel west of the pad for access route. The topsoil not required for immediate
reclamation (approximately 50 cubic yards) will be stored on the existing topsoil pile #17 at the alluvial
well house area (see Map 90 of the permit). The drill pad will be accessed through a 13 feet wide and
400 feet long access route with an approximate slope of 15 to 20 percent. The access route will be
cleared of brushes and topsoil will be bladed and temporarily stored on the side. The access route and
part of the drill pad will be reclaimed soon after the completion of the ventilation shaft.
Suite #305
405 Ut6an Street
lakea~ood, Colorado 80228
Telephone 3031988-9626
Telecopier 303/986 5147
