III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
ECG NECi4
S Coal Company Seneca Coal Company
May 26, 1998
RECEIVr~
Ms. Erica Crosby
Division of Minerals and Geoloqy MAY 2 $ 1Q~A
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-2273 Divisi0n01MinCCdls,.--- _.
RE: Seaeca ii-W Mine Permit C-62-057, Stipulation 27
Dear Ms. Crosby:
Stipulation No. 27 was attached to the Seneca II-W Mine Permit C-
82-057 upon the approval of Technical Revision No. 29 on March
13, 1998. This stipulation stated that Seneca Coal Company shall
conduct a sediment level survey for Pond 006 and provide the
Division with a sediment pond cleaning plan to ensure proper
capacity for Pond 006 by June 1, 1998.
Seneca conducted the sediment level survey on May Bth and the
results of this survey are shown on the enclosed Exhibit 1. The
individual survey points are depicted in red with the
corresponding elevation. Revised contour lines were also
generated based on these results. The sediment volume generated
as of this survey date totals 3.4 acre-feet. Also, attached is a
copy of the Pond 006 Phase IV Summary Sheet from Attachment 13-4C
of the permit. The design has a sediment storage volume of 8.7
acre-feet at an elevation of 7070.0. Therefore, 39.1Vs of the
available sediment storage has been utilized. Based on these
results, Seneca is not required to clean the pond out at this
time. We further believe that with the addition of the pre-
settling basin at the bottom of the 'B' Pit, sediment delivery to
Pond 006 in the next year will be at a minimum. Seneca will
continue to monitor the sediment level in the pond in 1999.
Should you or any other members of the Division have any
questions concerning the enclosed materials, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Michael G.
