Hydromulch:
Hydromulch may also be used. Additional seed species can be added such as Four- wing
saltbush and winterfat can be added to the mix up to '/~ pound per acre or sown
separately.
(e) There are a total of 3 phases proposed for the Russell Gravel Mine. It is estimated
that each phase will take approximately 10 years until all of the gravel material is
extracted for each phase. Each phase is 10 acres in size as shown on the Mining Map
(Exhibit D). The phasing sequence is identified by directional arrows also shown on the
Mining Map.
(~
(i) The final gradient for all reclaimed slopes is proposed to be a maximum of 3;1.
(ii) Seeding types are listed above in Item D.
(iii) It is not anticipated that fertilization will be required for this site.
(iv) Re-vegetation will be consistent with the type of short-grass prairie that exists
in the surrounding area.
Comment:
(9) The applicant states that soil amendments shall be applied where soil tests
indicate nutrient deficiencies for the plant species to be established. Please
further explain the soil testing that will be conducted on site.
Answer:
A minimum of 5 soil samples shall be taken to determine if soil amendments and
additives will be required before seeding commences in the reclamation areas. The soil
samples shall be taken at a (6") depth and (3") diameter core. It is recommended that the
soil samples be taken to the Colorado State University Soil, Water & Plant Testing
Laboratory. Located at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, 80523-1120.
