Dear Routt County Commissioners:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118,
Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on November 29, 1999, a permit revision application for a
permit to conduct coal mining operations, Permit No. C-1982-056 by Twentymile Coal Company, was considered
complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Coal
Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal
Mining initiate from [his date of filing.
This revision proposes the next 5 year mine plan, in a area referred to as [he Northern Mining District. This
proposed expansion calls for room and pillar mining and longwall mining. No new surface disturbance is
proposed with this revision, other than that associated with underground mine subsidence. The mine plan proposes
to affect the Fish Creek and it's associated alluvial valley floor. The mine expansion will add 2779.2 acres of
affected area.
The Underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 23 miles southwest of Steamboat
Springs, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows:
in portions of Sections 7, 8, 9, T4 W, R86W; Sections 32 and 33, T6N, R86W; Sections 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35
and 36 in TSN, R87W; and all of TSN, R86W with the exception of Sections 34, 35, and 36.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Rattlesnake Butte.
A copy of the revision application is available for public inspection at the Routt Counry Courthouse, Box 773598,
Steamboat Springs, CO 80477, and at [he Division office. For additional information, to provide written
comments, or to request an informal conference, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, ]313
