Long <br /> Division Director <br />Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996.083) <br />Permit Revision Application No. 6 (PA-6) <br />Unit Train Loadout <br />Dear Mr. Norris: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, <br />of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on August l4, 2001, an application to revise coal mining ope[ations at the Bowie No. 2 <br />Mine was considered complete for dte purposes of filing. All review and cotnmenl periods as provided in the Ac[ and [he <br />Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Approval of this revision will permit the consnuction of a unit train loadout south of the present mining operation and allow for <br />an increase in the annual coal production from 5 million tons per Yeaz to 6 million tons per year. The proposed vain loadout <br />construction will include a conveyor belt system [o transport coal from the present coal stockpile, over Old Highway 133, [o a <br />batch weigh loading system located above the railroad tracks. Also, there will be 11,855 feet of new railroad track construction <br />associated with [he train loadout. Sediment control will consist of one sedimentation pond and seve[al areas protected b}' <br />betvts, silt fence and straw bales. The design capacity of the proposed sedimentation pond is 2.41 acre-feet. The peratit area <br />will increase by 94 acres of private land, 32 acres of which will be disturbed acreage. <br />The Underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles Northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The permit <br />area is further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, ] 0, l 1, 14, 15, and l6, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />Portions of Sections 33 and 34, Township l2 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Aowie. <br />A copy of the revision application is available for public inspection a[ the Paonia Public Library, 140 Grand Avenue, Paonia, <br />CO 81428, and at the Division office.
