The new ventilation shaft is needed to provide adequate airflow
for development and mining of both the Northern and Western Mining Districts.
The 6-North Mains Ventilation installation will be located on the north side of Fish Creek, north and west of the
present Northwest Mains Ventilation Fan. Alight-use road will be extended approximately 2,900 feet from the
existing Northwest Mains installation to this location, and a pad and required drainage structures ill be
constructed. The completed shaft will be approximately 10-18 feet in diameter (liner ID) and 1,300 feet deep.
Associated ancillary equipment and facilities will include the light-use road; a lined cuttings pit; a reinforced
concrete pad; possibly an air heater, housing, and propane storage tank; powerline; substation and grounding bed;
seven 13-inch utility boreholes; surface compressor installation; rock dust tank, water storage tattle; and bulk
material storage tank. A maximum of approximately 2.4 acres of new surface disturbance will result from the
construction of the light-use road and 11.1 acres for the ventilation installation pad area. The proposed installation
will be a ventilation intake shaft and will not include a fan installation, so fan noise will not be a concern.
This submittal includes supplemental baseline information for the affected areas, provided as exhibits for inclusion
in the PAP; detailed design, operations, and reclamation information, provided as both revised PAP text and
exhibits; and revised maps, reflecting the location and configuration of the new facilities, road, and powerline.
New and revised PAP materials are identified by the attached Summary of Revisions/Additions.
We would like to proceed with this project as soon as possible, to take advantage of favorable weather and ground
conditions during the 2005 construction season. We, therefore, appreciate your consideration, cooperation, and
assistance in facilitating timely review and approval of this revision application. After you have opportunity to
review the accompanying information, please feel free to contact me with any questions or to discuss submittal
materials or related matters.
Best
Company
Supervisor
cc: Mike Berdine/TCC
