I agree with the Native vs. Introduced comment. I had noticed
that too and I think I had commented on that at one point but Colowyo had not corrected it.
Janet
-----Original Message-----
From: brad.petch@state.co.us [mailto:brad.petch@state.co.us]
Sent: Monday, April 29, 2002 2:10 PM
To: Janet.Binns@state.co.us
Cc: Liza.Graham@dowsts.state.co.us; Mike.Grode@dowgrj.state.co.us
Subject: Colowyo Reclamation Seedmix--TR 52
Janet,
Thanks for faxing the updated seed mix for Colowyo's technical revision. As
we discussed at the meeting in Meeker last week, I think that this seed mix
is a substantial improvement over the previous mix. I have one comment on
the seed mix: the descriptions for Astragalus titer (Cicer milkvetch--Table
2.05-7 Forbs), Onobrychis viciaefolia (Sainfoin-Table 2.05-7 Forbs), and
Sanguisorba minor (Small Burnet-Table 2.05-8 Forbs) are all listed as native
plants. While the copy you faxed had the origin of Cicer milkvetch hand
altered to introduced, the other do not show that change. To my knowledge,
all three (orbs are of Eurasian origin and are introduced to North America.
All have proven benefit to wildlife, particularly big game. In the absence
of reliable seed sources for many native legumes, we would (and frequently
have) recommended these three (orbs for inclusion in wildlife seed mixes.
Thanks again for sending the revised mix, and thanks for coming up for the
shrub density meting last week. It was a useful meeting for me. I look
forward to working on the issue in the field later this year.
Brad Petch
Area Habitat Biologist
Colorado Division of Wildlife
Box 1181
Meeker, CO 81641
(970) 878-6063
brad.petch@state.co.us <mailto:brad.petch@state.co.us>
