From: Rob Kisner
Colorado Lien Company
9•
~: ~ Regazding: (Blasting) Large rocks left in the overburden stockpiles
,F. The blasting practices at Colorado Lien has always been to maximize 24" minus shot rock. When
w ~~ ~ ' the materials that are going to be used for reclamation and are loaded at the face. A cat 9881oader is
toed. The operator takes everything that is too large for the smaller 980 loaders to ptuh over Ute
reclamation dump and makes a pile along the tce of a existing road or dttmp area. As these azeas aze
being back filled with the smaller materials, the large rock are covered over and stay on the bottom or
(® floor of the quarry.
The second common practice is that almost all of reclamation dump areas are pushed to the east so
any large rocks will roll to the bottom. Colorado Lien has used a D8N for reclamation far years and
as far as I know, we have not had problems with rocks too large to move in the reclamation arra.
From your notes, D9 dozers would be used if the State had to reclaim Owl Canyon and Rex quarries.
Reduced ef&ciency or blasting of large rocks left in the stockpiles is not ceeded.
f• Please call me at 90793-8432 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Rob ICisner
~,~ ,, O
µ;: ~ ~ ~~~~~~
+ Quatry Superintendent
cc: Sam Lien
Mike Golliher
