NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology proposes that an application to
renew a valid, existing permit to conduct coal mining and reclamation
operations submitted by MINREC, Inc. for the North Thompson Creek Mine be
approved.
The North Thompson Creek mine site is located in Pitkin County, approximately
nine miles southwest of Carbondale, Colorado. The loadout site is located
northwest of Carbondale in Garfield County, Colorado. The mining operation is
no longer active and the permit is for reclamation purposes only. The mined
coal was federally and privately owned, and the affected surface is federally
and privately owned. The permit area encompasses approximately 3,176 acres in
Sections 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34, and 35, T85, R89W; Sections 2, 3, and 4, T95,
R89W; and Sections 20, 29, 30, and 32, T7S, R88W, 6th P.M.
This proposed approval decision is based on a finding that the proposed
operation will comply with all requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal
Mining Reclamation Act, C.R.S. 34-33-101, et sec., and the regulations
promulgated thereunder.
Copies of the proposed decision including stipulations, are on file for public
inspection at the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215,
Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, and at the
Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Persons with an
interest that may be adversely affected by the proposed decision may request a
formal hearing before the Mined Land Reclamation Board on the proposed
decision. Such request must be made within thirty (30) days of the initial
publication of this notice, must be in writing, and must state with reasonable
specificity the reasons for the request and the objections to the proposed
decision.
