<br />NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION <br />The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology proposes that an application to <br />renew a valid, existing permit to conduct coal mining and reclamation <br />operations submitted by MINREC, Inc. for the North Thompson Creek Mine be <br />approved. <br />The North Thompson Creek mine site is located in Pitkin County, approximately <br />nine miles southwest of Carbondale, Colorado. The loadout site is located <br />northwest of Carbondale in Garfield County, Colorado. The mining operation is <br />no longer active and the permit is for reclamation purposes only. The mined <br />coal was federally and privately owned, and the affected surface is federally <br />and privately owned. The permit area encompasses approximately 3,176 acres in <br />Sections 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34, and 35, T85, R89W; Sections 2, 3, and 4, T95, <br />R89W; and Sections 20, 29, 30, and 32, T7S, R88W, 6th P.M. <br />This proposed approval decision is based on a finding that the proposed <br />operation will comply with all requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal <br />Mining Reclamation Act, C.R.S. 34-33-101, et sec., and the regulations <br />promulgated thereunder. <br />Copies of the proposed decision including stipulations, are on file for public <br />inspection at the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, <br />Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, and at the <br />Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Persons with an <br />interest that may be adversely affected by the proposed decision may request a <br />formal hearing before the Mined Land Reclamation Board on the proposed <br />decision. Such request must be made within thirty (30) days of the initial <br />publication of this notice, must be in writing, and must state with reasonable <br />specificity the reasons for the request and the objections to the proposed <br />decision. <br />
