Technical Revision No. 79 -PAR Responses Page 3
Apri118, 1997
potential habitat for the proposed species. WESTEC has not observed any habitats in the
entve area of the RPE that could be considered potential habitat for any threatened or
endangered species.
Exhibit 67 has been revised to update MCC's annual water depletion estimate. The estimate
was revised to include evaporation from the RPE pond, SG-1 (proposed in Permit Revision
No. 7), and the Lone Pine pond (to be proposed in the neaz future). MCC also updated the
estimates of potable water usage and other miscellaneous use given MCC's use in 1996 and
planned future use. Return flows were not changed at this time due to the unusual inflow
events MCC experienced in 1996 and 1997. A calculation based on the inflows that
occurred in 1996, shows that MCC returned more water to the North Fork than was used
from the river. Therefore, the revised estimate continues to be conservative. As MCC
continues to evaluate the mine inflow situation and develop plans to more effectively handle
the inflows, the annual water depletion estimate will be updated again.
8. No response required.
9. WESTEC has surveyed the entire area to be disturbed by the RPE during 1995 and
subsequently in 1996. The 1996 report was submitted with Permit Revision No. 7. The
areas surveyed are described in each report. As stated previously the area was surveyed for
habitat types.
Oaeration Plan -Permit Area
10. Maps 53 and 54 have been revised to show the location of the RPE.
Mine Facilities
11. MCC will utilize temporary erosion control measures where ever appropriate to protect
areas from sedimentation and to m;n;m;ze erosion, which will include the construction of the
stream crossing and the sedimentation pond. MCC will utilize straw bales, silt fence or
other similar structures for this purpose. MCC will frequently inspect these erosion control
measures to ensure they are properly placed and installed.
Ponds. Imaoundments and Diversions
12. The pond will be Gned with IIDPE.
13. MCC may utilize an erosion control mat in place of rip rap in ditches. MCC has included
the specifications for the mat, which demonstrate that it is a suitable replacement for rip rap.
The specifications should be included in Appendix L.
