Public Notice <br />Mountain Coal Company, L.L.C. (MCC), West Elk Mine, P.O. Box 591, Somerset, CO <br />81434, (970) 929-5015, has filed a complete application for Technical Revision Number <br />105, to Mining and Reclamation Permit Number C-80-007 with the Colorado Mined <br />Land Reclamation Board (Board) under the provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal <br />Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The Technical Revision is to construct two ventilation <br />shafts at the Refuse Pile Expansion area to facilitate mining in the B Seam. One shaft <br />will be an intake shaft with no fan; the other will be an exhaust shaft equipped with a fan. <br />The project is located in Township 13 South, Range 90 West, 6`h PM in portions of <br />Sections 10 and 15. The shaft construction will occur on previously disturbed areas and <br />the project will not increase the amount of disturbed land. The construction will occur on <br />lands owned and controlled by Mountain Coal Company. <br />The current permit was originally issued by the Boazd in July 1981, reissued August <br />1986, January 1993 (Effective August 1991), July 1996, and renewed July 31, 2001. The <br />current five-year permit term expires July 31, 2006. The West Elk Mine permit area <br />contains lands in Sections 9-11, 13-30, and 34-36, Township 13 South, Range 90 West, <br />6`h PM; and Sections 23-26, Township 13 South, Range 91 West, 6a' PM in Delta and <br />Gunnison Counties and encompasses approximately 10,386.3 acres. The azea is found on <br />the USGS 7.5 minute Somerset Quadrangle Topographic Map. An increase in disturbed <br />area will not result as a result of this Technical Revision. <br />A copy of the Technical Revision application is available for review at the Colorado <br />Division of Minerals and Geology (CDMG) Office, Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman <br />Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado, 80203, phone (303) 866-3567; and the Gunnison <br />County Planning Department, 200 E. Virginia, Gunnison CO 81230. Written comments <br />or objections on the application must be submitted to the CDMG. <br />
