BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 10-G <br />San Luis Project Technical Specifications <br />10.4 Seeding <br />Preparatory to seeding, the top six inches of the surface shall be tilled and brought to the desired <br />line and grade, except where, in [he opinion of the Designer, seeding follows so I:losely behind <br />the initial grading or topsoil placement as to make special seed bed preparation unnecessary. <br />Undulations or irregularities in the surface shall be leveled and existing grass, sod, weeds and <br />seeds must be tilled under. <br />All slopes 1.SH:1V and flatter shall be seeded by mechanical power drawn drills followed by <br />packer wheels or drag chains. Mechanical power drawn drills shall have deptt banks set to <br />maintain a planting depth of at leach one-quarter inch and not more than one-half inch and shall <br />be set to space the rows not more than 7 inches apart. If inspections indicate th:lt strips wider <br />than the specified space between the rows planted have been left or other azea:: skipped, the <br />Designer may require immediate re-sowing of seed in such areas at the Contractor's expense. <br />Seed that is extremely small shall be sowed from a separate hopper adjusted to the proper rate of <br />application. <br />When requested by the Contractor and approved by the Designer, seeding may be accomplished <br />by means of approved broadcast or hydraulic type seeders at a rate twice that shown in Table 1. <br />Seeds shall not be drilled or sown or otherwise planted during windy weather or when the ground <br />is frozen, crusted, or otherwise untillable. <br />All seed sown by broadcast-type seeders shall be "raked in" or otherwise covered with soil to a <br />depth of at least one quarter inch. Hand method of broadcasting seed will be permitted only on <br />small areas not accessible to machine methods. <br />Seeding of portions of the azeas designated may be permitted before the construction is <br />completed in order to take advantage of growing conditions. <br />10.5 Manure <br />Manure for soil amelioration shall be barn or stable type animal droppings and stlall be free of <br />materials toxic to plant growth and reasonably free of refuse. It shall be well rotted and not have <br />lost its strength by leaching or injurious fermentation.
