Altavilla, P.E.
Engineering Manager
Seneca Coal Company
Hayden Colorado 81639
Re: Yoast Mine,
Stockpile Area D
Dear Mr. Altavilla:
This letter is in response to our initial telephone
discussion of August 9, 1996 and our further discussion of this
date.
on August 9 you described a revised location for Stockpile
D. Tha question you posed to me was whether the new location
would be favorable from the standpoint oP geology. Subsequently
you sent me by facsimile copies of maps which showed the original
and revised locations of the stockpile_
In regard to the question raised I have referred to our
• report "Engineering Geologic Mapping, Yoast Mine and Vicinity,
Routt County, Colorado" dated August 22, 1994.
Descrifltion of Revised Stockpile D Area
The following description of the revised stockpile is in the
style of the original report.
4.4.4 Stockpile Area D. This area is along the. line between
secs. 8 and 17, mainly in the latter section. The site is
roughly oriented N35W and covers about two acres. The extreme
northern part of the area overlaps a small part of the original
Stockpile Area D.
Rock Twe. The predominant rock type underlying this site
is sandstone. Throughout the area, particularly along the ridge
crest, bedrock should be at or close to the surface_
S_t~gct_ use,. This location is along the crest of a sharp
ridge that is held up by sandstone that strikes and dips N80W,
19NE, almost parallel to the topography.
Topoa~anhv and Dr~inage_ The long (560 feet) N35W
orientation of the area is almost parallel to the topography on a
21.43$ (4.6: 1) slope. The site is about 80 to 190 feet above
the major drainage to the north.
Comments and Evaluation. This area is along the crest of a
• 1
