This
application addresses changes to the principal spillway locations and configurations at Ponds 004 and 008 and
abandonment plans for the existing spillways. This package contains the required application form, proposed
public notice, the revised or new information, and the insertion instructions for updating the PAP.
Duting an inspection in April 2005 {following snow and ice melt) it was observed that Pond 008 principal
spillway was no longer functioning as designed and constmcted. The principal spillway riser had deteriorated
below the orifice and was not retaining the design volume of water. SCC alerted the Division of the situation
and that interim remedial steps had been taken to provide as much containment as possible until an approved
remediation plan could be implemented.
Pond 004 was inspected at the same time and it was determined that there was enough deterioration to the
discharge barrel of the principal spillway to warrant replacement of this pipe. This principal spillway consists
of a straight pipe through the embankment.
SCC has reviewed these ponds and redesigned the princpal spillways to safely handle the current hydrologic
conditions. Both spillways will be replaced by straight pipes through the embankments at appropriate
elevation. As a safety measure to ensure longevity of the spillways, SCC Is proposing to install corrugated
"plastic" pipe as replacement for the original corrugated "metal" pipe.
]f you or other DMG staff members have further comment or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me
at (970) 846-3648.
Sin~i,~. -
;;~~ccrr~QQ
Roy A.
