The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. Al! review
and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
Approval of this technical revision would allow the construction of a ventilation shaft in the northeast section of the Bowie No.
2 permit area. Access to the site would be through the BLM Freeman Gulch public road, and then by an aUeady-existing
exploration drill site light use road (the surface owned by BLM and by Bowie Resources). The shaft site is at a former
exploration drill pad site (the surface owned by Bowie Resources). Bowie Resources has applied for access to the BLM portion
of the road through Federal Right-of--Way COC-63617. The shaft will be 6 to 8 feet in diameter and lined with steel. The shaft
will be about 400 feet deep and any water that is encountered will drain into the mine. The initial drill hole did encounter some
water in the upper colluvium but not in the formations themselves. There will not be a fan on the ventilation shaft. The
disturbed area for this project is about one acre, most of which has ah•eady occurred through the exploration drilling program.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The permit
area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, l0, l I, l4, l5, and 16, Township l3 South, Range 9l West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Delta County Courthouse, 5th & Palmer,
Delta CO 81416, and at the Division ooFice. For additional information or to provide written comments, contact the Division
of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. In order for us to
comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen (IS) days of this letter. If no
comments are received by then, we will proceed on the assumption that you have no concerns with, or objections to, the
applicant's proposal.
Sincerely,
ot..+l.,.o-~
o eph .
